Biography

Prof. Emeritus Dr. Abdul Razak Hamdan is a distinguished Malaysian scholar and pioneer in Artificial Intelligence (AI), currently serving as Professor Emeritus at the Centre for Artificial Intelligence Technology (CAIT), Faculty of Information Science and Technology, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). He obtained his Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from UKM in 1975, a Master of Science in Computing from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom, in 1977, and a PhD in Artificial Intelligence from Loughborough University of Technology, United Kingdom, in 1987.

With more than three decades of experience in AI research and development, Prof. Abdul Razak's expertise spans artificial intelligence, data mining, data analytics, data science, decision support systems, IT strategy, and software quality. He founded the Data Mining and Optimization (DMO) Laboratory at UKM and has led numerous research projects funded by government agencies and industry partners.

A former Dean of the Faculty of Information Science and Technology, UKM, he served two terms (1994–2000 and 2007–2012) and played a pivotal role in advancing computing and AI education in Malaysia. In recognition of his outstanding contributions to academia, research, and national development, he was conferred the title of Professor Emeritus in Artificial Intelligence by UKM in 2018. He continues to contribute actively to research, academic leadership, and the development of future talent in artificial intelligence and digital technologies.
