Professor Islem Rekik

Professor Islem Rekik is Professor in Computing in the Department of Computing, Faculty of Engineering, Imperial College London. She is the Director of the Brain and Signal Research and Analysis (BASIRA) Laboratory and an Associate Professor at Imperial College London Innovation Hub I-X.

She is the awardee of two prestigious international research fellowships, the EU Marie Curie Fellowship and TUBITAK 2232. In 2024, she received the Tunisian AI Award from the Tunisian AI Society, recognizing top AI pioneers, and was featured in I-X News and Realites magazine.

Together with BASIRA members, Professor Rekik has conducted more than 100 cutting-edge research projects cross-pollinating AI and healthcare, with a sharp focus on brain imaging and network neuroscience. Undergraduate and postgraduate students under her supervision have received 26 highly competitive academic honors, grants, and awards.

She has co-chaired, chaired, and organized more than 34 international conferences, workshops, and competitions, including Affordable AI, Predictive AI, Machine Learning in Medical Imaging, and the WILL competition. She has delivered more than 40 invited keynotes, talks, seminars, and lectures at international venues including MICCAI, CVPR, ISBI, and the Wellcome Trust.

Professor Rekik is a member of the organizing committee of MICCAI 2023, MICCAI 2024, and MICCAI 2025, and will serve as General Co-Chair of MICCAI 2026 in Abu Dhabi. In addition to more than 160 peer-reviewed publications in leading journals including IEEE TPAMI and BMJ, she is a strong advocate for equity, diversity, and inclusiveness in AI and research, and is the former President of Women in MICCAI and co-founder and former President of the international RISE Network.
